STW TFFC Skills Group Launch

Working in partnership to unlock the true skills potential of the Scottish Hospitality & Tourism Sector.

Reflected within the Enterprise, Energy and Tourism Enquiry findings published in 2008, and the Scottish Government Tourism Task Group findings published in 2009, there is growing consensus and understanding that the skills needs of the Scottish Hospitality and Tourism Sector would be served far better through the guidance and direction of an overarching, industry driven skills group.

Against this backdrop, and working under the banner of the Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC), People 1st and the Scottish Tourism Forum have been working in partnership with the Institute of Hospitality, VisitScotland, Skills Development Scotland, Springboard and HIT Scotland, to form a new industry led Skills Group to address this challenge, and is now being positioned as the authoritative industry voice which will represent the current and future skills needs of the sector.

The TFFC Group will:

  • Provide a clear and unified focus on the key skills issues that currently restrict the long term growth of the sector.
  • Indentify who is responsible for addressing these issues and work with them to ensure that definable actions are put in place which are measurable and show impact.
  • Create a clear rationale for ensuring that limited public resources are directed to only those initiatives and interventions that support the needs of the industry.
  • Encourage employers and individuals to re-connect with the skills agenda, providing unity and, crucially, ownership for how it moves forward.
