Scottish tourism facts & figures

There are 20,000 tourism businesses in the country, generating £4.2 billion value to Scotland p.a. Tourism is set to grow to £6.0 billion by 2015.

Over 215,000 people are employed in the industry, 8% of the total workforce, each directly affected by changes in Government policy.

In 2004, nearly 21 million tourists took overnight trips in Scotland and spent just over £4.5 billion, supporting 8% of all employment. UK visitors accounted for over 19 million trips, while overseas tourists spent £789 million.
