STF AGM and Open Meeting, 4th Oct 2007

Pete IrvineThe Scottish Tourism Forum's popular annual AGM and Open Meeting was held at Discovery Point (pictured right)  in Dundee on Thursday 4th Oct 2007.  This industry Open Meeting (open to all) looked at the 'Recipe for Success for Scottish Tourism', and concluded with an inspirational keynote address by Pete Irvine (pictured left), who addressed delegates about his recent experieces travelling across Scotland for his updates on the forthcoming latest edition of his respected guide book, Scotland the Best.

STF's new Chief Executive Iain Herbert discussed the Forum's priorities for the year ahead and delegates heard from industry and public sector experts on legislative developments which will impact on tourism.  VisitScotland's CEO Philip Riddle unveiled the five key drivers of VisitScotland's Tourism Prospectus which postulates pragmatic ways to achieve the industry's shared private and public ambitions for achieving our 50% growth ambition for 2015. Delegates also heard from John Brown, the Scottish Government's Deputy Director Tourism and Whisky Legislation and Sue Crossman gave an exhilerating presentation on Scotland's Climate Change, an exciting, industry-led, environmental initiative for Scottish tourism. Go to www.climatechangescotland.com for more info on this new carbon off-setting programme.

An afternoon debate on food, chaired by Nell Nelson (pictured right, presenter of the television programme The Woman Who Ate Scotland) followed a networking lunch and explored current concerns around food production and sourcing - highlighting what customers want and expect from food providers in the tourism industry. Guest panellists included Eat Scotland's Peter Brown, Alastair Jamieson of The Scotsman, David Maguire, Chair of Glasgow Restaurateurs Association and Howard Wilkinson of Ayshire Farmers Markets.

The next STF Open Meeting will take place on 5th December at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. Details of the agenda for this meeting will be posted to this website shortly.
