STF Open Meeting: 5 Dec 2006

Macdonald Inchyra Grange Hotel, near Stirling
Sponsored by Macdonald Hotels

The key focus of the day was 'Profitable growth for a sustainable future': 50% growth - how do we do it?'

The Tourism Framework for Change sets a target of growing tourism in Scotland by 50% by 2015. Many have been asking '50% of what?' and, more importantly, where will the growth come from to achieve the growth target?

The Scottish Executive outlined the five themes that have been developed to support the TFFC and delegates also heard from Scottish Enterprise regarding their strategy to work with tourism. VisitScotland outlined; where we could see this growth coming from, in which sector, where, by volume or by additional spend per visitor?

We also ran through a case study of how the proposed new Licensing Bill could affect your business and delegates heard a preview of final plans for Highland 2007

The STF also expand edon the tourism manifesto that is being used to lobby the political parties on tourism matters as they in turn prepare their own manifestos for the elections in May 2007.

This critical meeting advanced the issues and ideas which were debated at the Scotland's Strategic Future event (DeVere Cameron House, Loch Lomond, 20 Nov 06). Each delegate received papers circulated to the delegates attending the Cameron House event. Delegates had an unrivalled opportunity to hear first hand from the public sector agencies of the new, emerging policies which will support the profitable growth of our industry.
